Play Group

For many, Infant Class is the first time that children spend time away from their parents. Our warm and nurturing teachers are ready to welcome your child into the school environment. Our experienced teachers will support your child in a small class group with many chances for one-on-one interaction. We use the children's senses to stimulate their interest and increase their engagement in learning. We offer a flexible schedule that is custom-made for your child. We assist the children to slowly transition to a more structured day.

Foundation 1

Our warm, caring environment helps students to take this step without additional stress being placed upon the child. We support your child in a small class group with many chances for one-on-one interaction. We use the children's senses to stimulate their interest and increase their engagement in learning. Our extensive theme curriculum is used to teach topics such as Animals, Food, Occupation, Home, and about themselves. We also encourage independence through daily routines and support children as they learn to be more independent, develop group and life skills, and show consideration for their friends.

Foundation 2

This class builds on the foundations begun in our Play Group and Foundation 1 classes through a range of interesting and hands-on experiences that assist in their social, physical and cognitive development. The ability to follow routines will be strengthened by continual exposure over the course of the year. We will also continue to expose our students to early literacy skills with a focus on early phonics awareness with exposure to individual letter sounds. These skills are taught using fun, original teaching materials, designed specifically for this age group. A range of themes will also be taught throughout the course of the year, which will both review the content taught in Foundation 1 and introduce new vocabulary and concepts. Sensory exploration is key to the teaching of our original theme curriculum as is the opportunity for imaginative play.

Reception

In the students final year at Colors & Crayons we will be teaching increasingly specialized concepts and vocabulary, continuing to develop the children’s independent reading skills, and their ability to express their opinions in writing. As with previous years the theme topics will be used to teach a range of concepts. The children’s gross motor skills are also defined more though skills such as using a jump rope, and basic gymnastics. By the end of the year, students will be able to express themselves confidently in both written and verbal form. They will be able to use their knowledge of phonics, sight words and spelling conventions to write independently for a range of purposes and read independently without assistance. Reception is a very fun year, where the children gain independence in preparation for primary school curriculum.
